Moody Meets: Laura Jackson

Name: Laura Jackson

Age: 31

When you feel low, what is the music you play to pull yourself out of it?

I play all sorts, but I tend not to play anything sad, slow or anything that will lower my mood even more. So anything up-tempo and fun

Describe your earliest bad or good mood related memory and why?

I can’t think of one

Describe your current state of wellbeing

I have just got married, so at the moment I'm feeling really happy, but I'm not content with my body as I have just eaten and drunk through a wedding and a honeymoon. My mind is super-clear and I feel really happy with life, work and my friendships.

How do you know when life starts to feel out of whack?

When the balance is tipping. It normally tips when works gets busy which means I have no time for my husband and my friends - which I hate. My favourite thing to do is to cook for friends at home, if I haven't done this for a while I know the balance is off.

What's your top tip for getting more re-energising?

Exercising is great because it really does clear my head. Even though I dread going to the gym, I never leave wishing I hadn't have gone. Having a dog is great motivation, it means you have to leave the house - even on the days you don't want to.

What do you do when your energy levels are low?

Eat chocolate and sleep. As I grow older my period pains have heightened. During the first few days of my period I feel like I have no energy, but sometimes its not about picking yourself up and making yourself go for a run, it’s about allowing your self to feel a little crap. Put Netflix on, eat some ice cream and don’t worry about it.

How would you describe your relationship with your moods?

I’m am not very good at articulating things like this, I don't like feeling unhappy or sad but life wouldn't be balanced if we all felt happy all the time, would it?

I tend to feel down and emotional when I am due on my period which can sometimes be a few days, and there are times when I don't get my own way and like a child, I may have a little sulk - normally when my husband is watching football, and I want to watch Strictly.

If you're feeling low how do you pull yourself out of it?

My husband is so brilliant if I'm feeling hormonal. He will take me out for dinner and just make me laugh. I surround myself with amazing friends who are supportive and love me, they are not the yes men either - they put me in my place and tell me what’s what, but equally they send me flowers and spontaneous postcards - I feel very lucky to have a great group of friends.
